GenerationOne, Reconciliation Australia and Social Ventures Australia have created a step-by-step guide
for managers and supervisors who are on the frontline of hiring and retaining Indigenous staff.
Everybody's Business: A Handbook for Indigenous Employment was developed in close consultation
with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and organisations, reflecting the shared knowledge
and experiences on helping people break the cycle of disadvantage through sustainable employment.
GenerationOne has created a short video to help employers who have signed a Covenant to start their employees
journey of cultural awareness.
The case studies document existing examples of employers who were supporting the transition of Indigenous
Australians from long-term unemployment into sustainable and meaningful employment.
These case studies give unprecedented insight into ways employers can break the cycle of Indigenous
unemployment, and at a granular level, how this is working. They were developed with consulting support from
Social Ventures Australia.
Walk in My Shoes examines the experiences of Indigenous people looking for work or already employed and a
number of employers.
Walk in My Shoes reveals Indigenous job seekers are frustrated and feel stuck in a training cycle
that makes no link to a job or career. This report provides insights for governments, employers and individuals
so they can better respond, and place greater importance on the successful methods outlined in the report to
support job seekers through their employment journey.
